Smoglins & Secrets - A 5e Oneshot for Climate Justice

Smoglins & Secrets is a 5e-compatible 2-3 hour oneshot for Level 3 characters. Expect two challenging combat encounters and open-ended exploration full of mystery, intrigue, and silly names.

Premise

This adventure takes place in the Tempari Republic, a small democracy known for its bustling industry and prestigious university, Tempari University. The entire Republic is abuzz with the news that a well-known professor, Dr. Wright, has gone missing. Will you be able to determine the whereabouts of the professor?

A Climate Justice Adventure

This adventure is intended to introduce climate justice concepts in an abstracted fantasy setting. Climate justice recognizes that communities are unequally impacted by climate change, and often those who are most impacted have had the least influence on policy decision-making. By the end of the adventure, participants are intended to walk away with the following insights:

• Change is possible through persistent local community organizing.
• Individuals can fight for a more just world by bringing people together around shared values and exercising political power.
• Disinformation (intentional misinformation) is a primary barrier to action by sowing division within communities.
• Climate doomism is a form of disinformation that presents catastrophic climate change as an inevitability, leading many to disengage.
• Grounded optimism is a powerful antidote to climate doomism, and is urgently needed to hold polluters accountable for their action.
